Community Activity

Stories From The Pandemic, supported a wide range of activities to take place across the city which enable many communities to come together, reflect on their experiences from the pandemic and engage in memorial activity together.

 

Compassionate Sheffield, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, awarded over 50 small grants to a wide range community groups and organisations in Sheffield under its Covid-19 Community Memorial Fund.

'Give us a GIF' - DINA

Sheffield arts venue, DINA, projected a patchwork of ‘lockdown’ GIFs, sent to them by members of the public, onto their venue in Fitzalan Square.

Amazelab - Reflecting on the Pandemic Workshops

Amazelab has run workshops for children creating sun catchers and using them as a reflection tool

‘Help Each Other!’ - Stand and Be Counted

Stand and Be Counted’s Youth Theatre of Sanctuary co-created a short film called ‘Help Each Other!’ exploring everything they learned and lived through the Covid-19 pandemic.

African Voices Platform produced a short video highlighting the impact Covid had on the black African community in Sheffield.

Out of the Box Training

Out of the Box developed a COVID pandemic story with community leaders in Sheffield and trained and supported them to run storytelling sessions.

Steel City Choristers

Steel City Choristers ‘Lament’ service was a choral performance with art exhibitions, offering a reflective space in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic.

African Women's Health Group

African Women's Health Group

African Women’s Health Group collected stories from their service-users, neighbours and BAME women who come to them for help. They also hosted a final celebration event where food was shared and people had the chance to view the stories on video, via images and writing.

The Terminus Initiative

The Terminus Initiative

The Terminus Initiative put together a community piece of artwork as a memorial for the Covid-19 pandemic, asking for local people (in S8) to contribute to the design. Once this was completed, Terminus held a celebration event to unveil the artwork, to which they invited local people in the community.

Burton Street Foundation

Burton Street Foundation

Burton Street Foundation ran a range of group-based sessions for their clients (adults and children with learning and physical disabilities) using art and discussion. Their collective artwork was displayed in various forms in exhibitions at Western Park, Graves Gallery and Burton Street.

Sheffield Mencap & Gateway

Sheffield Mencap & Gateway

Members of Sheffield Mencap and Gateway produced pieces of personal memorial work to reflect on their experiences of the pandemic. These memorial pieces were then captured in the ‘Reflections on the Pandemic’ exhibition, opened on 23rd March.

'Holding Our Own Stories'

An event hosted by SACHMA, SCCCC and Compassionate Sheffield, recording, writing, and talking about stories from older people in BAME communities across the city.

Sheffield Voices - Disability Sheffield

Sheffield Voices - Disability Sheffield

Disability Sheffield’s learning disability and Autism group, Sheffield Voices, held a ‘We Speak You Listen’ event, where they created drama, art and stories around the communities’ experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic.
