A Lasting

Testimony

From

Sheffield

As we learn about each others lives

we can lay the foundations for a Compassionate Sheffield.

“I think we all have a story. And all our stories are interesting to other people. I think as humans, we like to know about other people’s lives and what they get up to etc. So whoever you are, whatever your background, whatever happened to you during the pandemic period, that is your individual story. And together that makes up the story of Sheffield.”

“There were one stage we were on about.
If we were locking down, somebody got it, then we were all gonna be locked down here. So we brought some stuff with us. We were carrying clothes around, in case we got it and had to be locked down in the unit so we wouldn’t take it home.

“All the people that I used to know that have gone, I just wish that
I knew them more. If I’d knew them more and knew what they were going through - I know I couldn’t have helped them, but at least it could have been support from there and then.

"Jess was in the final stages of her battle against cancer when I proposed to her on Christmas Day 2020 and we had no idea if we would actually be able to get married because of the lockdowns and Jess’s health issues."

Charlotte

“We had to be just in our drives and then it just carried on and on and on. And we ended up dancing every single day.

“When you’ve been able to go out, I’ve been out. When I’ve had to stop home, I’ve stopped at home. Shopping done, yeah, no problem about that. Books, paint-
ing I’ve done at home. Passed the time, there is always television, though I don’t watch much of that."

"But most of all, what I remember about that time was the hope. Some people hadn’t been out of their homes for months, and they came dressed for the occasion [vaccination]. One lady came in a gown and some pearls. The mood of everybody was really upbeat."

“Actually, I know it sounds weird, but I liked it a bit. Like I say, I love nature. I’ll go for walks now. I started in lockdown, and I still do it now. And that’s like a new love actually, going on me own."

“And I feel like my connection with Him got really stronger. And I started praying more, and I started talking to Him more. And it was really nice, because after praying, you get
a really nice feeling in your body. It is like your whole body just goes from huh? to yay!"
